Although this film is incomparable to other films co-starring Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino, such as Heat, I must say this movie is better than I expected.
It is the story of two NYPD detectives who have always been on the right side of the law, but when they see criminals being set free, a maniacal plan is set in motion to see that these criminals get what’s coming to them.
One single action sets off the string of events that causes a hardened officer to lose his faith, and the other to make the toughest choice of his life.
DeNiro and Pacino have great chemistry on screen. They have great dialogue throughout the film, bringing not only laughs to viewers, but a truly genuine feeling of the characters they portrayed.
I went in expecting another dull plot that intended on riding the tailcoats of a big name, much like the film’s director, Jon Avnet, did in his previous film starring Pacino, 88 Minutes.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps I owe part of that surprise to Writer Russel Gerwitz, who was also the writer of Inside Man.
This film does a great job at making you guess “who done it?” It is definitely one of Pacino’s and DeNiro’s best collaborations, albeit not as classic as Heat.
The all star cast also includes big names such as Donnie Wahlberg, John Leguizamo and the sexy Carla Gugino. We also get to see a cameo from pro-skater, Rob Dyrdek, which I felt was a nice touch.
Oh, and Curtis Jackson, A.K.A., Fifty Cent is also featured in this film who is obviously not such a memorable actor. It is beyond me how he managed to star alongside two of Hollywood’s greatest.
