The lingering scent of juicy cheeseburgers in the air was good enough to stop any one dead in their tracks, and head towards the barbecue.
Tables were set out for students to sit down and enjoy their lunch. Faculty members, both full-time and part-time were walking around to answer any questions students might have.
“We basically do this for students to get information on upcoming auditions, and to sign up for the mailing list we provide. We do everything from emails, flyers, and posters,” explained Georgia Well, Theater Department chair.
The Theater Department wasn’t able to host a barbecue the last couple of years, but this year they decided it was time to do it once again.
“This is nice for a change, we don’t get to do the barbecue all the time, but this department is great, and always very friendly,” mentioned Robert Campolo, film professor.
Hamburgers weren’t the only thing on everybody’s plate, there was a table full of cookies and chips and student Enzo Canepa was right there filling up his plate.
Canepa has been part of the theater department since last fall. He has recently auditioned for “De Donde?” the new Cerritos College play that is set out to come out on Dec. 5.
“I love being part of this department and all the plays. I get to be someone I am not, like an opposite of me and it’s such a great experience,” Canepa expressed.
Throughout the barbecue, students actually had the opportunity to sign up for the mailing list. It was a huge success according to Huber.
“We actually had six or seven people that changed their majors to theater,” Huber announced excitedly.
A theater professor was hard at work behind the grill feeding hungry mouths Tuesday afternoon. The Theater Department had a barbecue which provided free lunch to students that were interested in learning on what the department had to offer.
The barbecue was held next to Studio Theater.
Dr. Robin Huber has been part of the Cerritos Theater Department for 20 years.
“We’ve been doing this barbecue for many years now, and it’s always turned out very successful,” Huber said.
