“Literature is my life. I came back to college just to study English, ” Literature Club Vice President Danny Acuna said.
Not everyone in the club is an English lover.
However, some like Kelly Willis, criminal justice major, were not interested in literature.
Although Willis says that she actually hates reading, joining the club has inspired her to get back into it.
The Literature Club has a variety of people from English majors to those joining the military; it is a versatile place, open to anyone and everyone.
As criminal justice major Venessa Vega commented, “I came here once, just to test the water, and I really liked the people who were here. I was worried it was going to be really egotistical. The people here are nice; they don’t think that their taste in literature is superior. This is a welcoming environment.”
Literature Club President Matt Hamilton, an English major, took over the club after his first semester in spring of 2010. His main goal is to promote literature.
“[My goal] is to create an atmosphere where people can discuss literature in a positive manor and just share what they’re reading with friends.”
One of the greatest accomplishments of the club to Hamilton is to make and keep friends, having people after transferring or graduating, that you still meet with on weekends or talk to on Facebook.
“I don’t know if we’ll be lifelong friends, but I can see us still being friend’s way down the road. And I think that is one of the greatest things Literature Club does for people, is making friends that you can keep for a long time,” he said.
If you’re interested in reading or writing, or just want to make new friends, the Literature Club meets every Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Liberal Arts 24.
