Cerritos College Piano Instructor Greg Schreiner produced an event called Hollywood Revisited Saturday at Menifee Valley’s Center for Spiritual Living. He displayed more than 350 outfits from old-time Hollywood stars while playing songs identifiable with the customs.
“It fits beautifully with my love for piano and my love for costumes,” said Schreiner
In this world-wide event, costumes are original pieces of art and speak anecdotes of their own.
Some gowns in Schreiner’s were used on films from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. Originally he only collected Marilyn Monroe’s gowns, and has 12 of her gowns, however as her fame rose throughout the decades, so did the prices, he expanded to collect other Hollywood’s big stars apparel.
“Nowadays a Marilyn Monroe gown can run into millions of dollars,” Schreiner explained.
Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Julie Andrews, Gene Kelly, Bette Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Mae West, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Judy Garland are just some of the iconic figures whose outfits were shown.
Despite Mr. Schreiner’s love for old-time Hollywood stars, he also collects costumes from current films. Costumes shown at his events are influenced by the age of the audience.
The show has been around over twenty years and perhaps it will be around longer since its content is very rare. The eras at his show shaped the direction of Hollywood.
As a little boy, Schreiner, fell in love with Marilyn Monroe and the whole movie scene in Southern California. He relocated from Illinois only to follow his passion.
Schreiner is not only involved with the glamorous Hollywood scene but is also a piano instructor here. His passion for music has opened doors for him that he would of never imagined as a child. To accomplish all this success he only had to do one thing, know exactly what his dream was and follow it.
Here on campus, he has been a piano instructor since 1987. His show has made him quite a superstar.
Schreiner’s show has made him a celebrity in his own right, and his love of celebrities have lead him to be president of Marilyn Monroe’s biggest fan club which will be featured in a documentary scheculed for release on Feb 2.
