“It caught me off guard; I was not expecting to win an award because I didn’t win for any of my [four nominations].” Theatre arts major Emmanuel Plascencia commented about his previous win of a Bernie award for Outstanding Performance Student.
This award included $500 or a chance to go to Shakespeare Camp; Plascencia accepted the money.
“It doesn’t matter about money really.”
The Burnies, an award ceremony by the Theatre Department, was held on Tuesday.
Theatre instructor Forrest Hartl expressed that the Burnies are, “A great night to honor our students.”
“They’ve been working hard all year long.”
Awards included Best Supporting Male In A Sketch, Unsung Hero, Best Crew Member, Best Male Performance and Best Female Performance by a Female In A Supporting Role.
Undecided major Shanelle Moore won the award for Best Performance By A Female In A Supporting Role for her role as Saint Monica in Judas Iscariot.
“It feels good to win this award. I was kind of hoping that I didn’t win so I wouldn’t have to go up there [on the platform] to say a speech,” said Moore.
