It took radio and television major Jaime Rob Flores to hear the answer of his proposal to the ASCC senate of a $10,000 grant for WPMD radio station.
The Cerritos College cabinet committee were the last ones to approve the bill. A DJ system and high quality laptop are the top priorities for the money.
Flores forwarded the bill under his Chair Of The Special Services and Activities Senate Committee name for the bill to pass; he is very relieved that it passed.
“I feel very much accomplished because this is something I have been trying to propose to the senate for a while,” Flores said.
He waited for his answer week after week but was not able to know until the bill had stopped being tabled on the agenda of ASCC meetings.
“There was a lace of members to reach [qoem] or the discussion would go over [the] time limit,” Flores explained.
He mentioned that the main purpose for this bill was to be able to afford to buy a DJ system that will benefit radio broadcasting students.
“This is a way for each student to increase their talent,” Flores said.
Continuing with his statement, Flores said that WPMD students will now the be ones running the music for school events because the school legislation eliminated its contract with DJ Party Pro and will save the school money for not hiring outside entertainment.
It really surprised Flores that students do not know that Cerritos does not have a radio station, and he isn’t the only one.
WPMD Station Manager Dennis Clare also shared the same surprising emotions as Flores.
Clare believes that WPMD students being able to DJ for school event because, “It’s a great opportunity for the station to get out there in front of the student body because we still have thousands of people on this campus who don’t know who we are.”
He said that students eligible to use the soon-to- e bought DJ system are the ones who have background experience of using such a expensive equipment behind it, such as those in the broadcasting club.
