The Cerritos College Music Club gathers together for the first meeting of the fall 2012 semester on Sep. 6 to discuss some of the following topics:
- How to get exposure on campus
- Music club charity concerts
- Workshops
Current Music Club President Robert Brown introduced himself and the rest of the cabinet followed.
Jennifer Ornelas, Vice President. Andrew Phanthumchinda, Secretary, Summer Wilson, the Treasure and Alejandro Pina, ICC rep, he studies piano and gives private lessons each weak.
“We are one of the smallest clubs but we are also one of the closest, you don’t have to be in a music class or program to be in the music club.” President Brown said
After the cabinet, the students introduce themselves too and said a little something about who they are and what they like.
Undecided major Brian Peterie said, “I’m a new guy in town, I play the guitar and I love rock!”
Nursing major Brittany James said, “I’m originally from Nebraska and recently moved to California, I auditioned for American Idol/Heartland Idol in Nebraska and made it to the semi finals.”
Majors ranged from Arts, Chemistry, Business, Kinesiology, Nursing to Music Ed and more at the meeting.
Some students play instruments like the trumpet, piano, drums and the clarinet. “My main instrument is the euphoria,” Vice President Ornelas said referring to her high-end electric guitar.
Singers, music engineers and music lovers were all present at the club meeting.
The music club offers students a chance to attend workshops and learn more about music education and music performance. The club also offers students and the community a chance at exposure during concert days.
If someone can sing, free style, play an instrument and don’t have stage fright, the club welcomes you to perform at one of the concerts held at Cerritos College.
If someone needs a sound system, mic or speakers for the concert that is provided for you by the music club, except amps those are not provided but you can bring your own.
“This is not a paid gig, this is for exposure only and you are welcome to sell your cd’s or t-shirts at the concert,” President Brown said.
The club discussed the importance of community involvement and important dates like the can food drive in November and the toys for tots in December. Both of these are charity concerts provided by the club.
A non-paid gig was announced, for an art gallery, looking for a singer, prefer more of a mellow type style. This will be for next Friday Sept. 14 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Cerritos College.
