The Cerritos College Art Club is hosting a student art sale on on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Fine Arts 35, which is located adjacent to the Classroom Building.
Part of the student art sale, works from ceramic students will be sold, such as hand-made cups, plates, platters, bowls, sculptures, decorative items and many more pieces/
Unlike the past, this year’s sale is limited to ceramics only. All items were created by student artists who attend Cerritos.
“Prices should be reasonable; as cheap as $2 to no more than $200,” ceramics professor Steven Portigal said. “They make excellent gifts and you don’t have to worry long lines and screaming kids like at the mall.”
Portigal added that there is educational value to these sales as they teach the student artists how to market themselves and their artwork.
Seventy-five percent of sales will go back to the artists, 20 percent to the Ceramics Department and 5 percent to the Art Club.
“We should always support people who make things by hand. If we lose that then we lose our humanity,” Portigal said.
“People don’t really think about it but it is a privilege to eat off something that is hand-made. The coffee may not taste different coming from a hand-made mug but there’s something special about it.”
