Auditions for Cerritos College’s newest play, “Durang/Durang,” were held on December 10 and 11 n the Burnight Studio Theatre.
Directed by Trevor Bishop, “Durang/Durang” is a collection of parodies from Christopher Durang of American Theatre’s greatest hits.
Day one of auditions prompted a decent amount of auditioning students while day two consisted more of callbacks.
Although most of the auditioning students have been in previous productions on campus, many are seeking their first.
Theatre Major Anthony Alvarez, who recently transferred to Cal State La, saw the fliers on campus and decided to audition.
“My goal is to branch out and get as much experience as I can,” Alvarez said, “Usually when I audition I don’t go for any specific roles, I do it for the experience.”
Callback Viviana Gallo, who has been coming to Cerritos for over two years, described her audition experience as nerve wracking, saying “I was nervous, the audition was quick and more to the point than others.”
This being Trevor Bishop’s first Cerritos production, Theatre major and callback Matthew Cruz stated, “It was fun, he seems like a really good director and I hope I get to work with him.”
“Durang/Durang” will have several performance dates in the beginning of March starting on the first.
