The Music Department and ASCC present the spring Faculty Gala that will be held on Sunday March 3 at 2 p.m. in the Burnight Center Theatre, showcasing the talent of the Music Department’s faculty.
According to Anna DeMichele, director of vocal and choral studies, pre-sale tickets can be purchased online at $12 for general audiences, $10 for students with ID, staff, faculty members, seniors, middle and high school students, and $8 for children ages 5 to 12.
Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $15, $12, or $10.
The Faculty Gala is a fundraiser for student scholarships and the proceeds from the ticket sales are used for future scholarships.
“Our music faculty consists of some of the premiere musicians in the southland,” DeMichele said, “and we are proud to feature them in two concerts per year, both in spring and fall.”
“We have quite a mix of performers this Sunday,” said DeMichele, “We are featuring many different instruments including, piano, guitar, trumpet, tuba, violin, voices, and along with several group numbers. Musical styles range from baroque, classical, romantic to gershwin and jazz.”
Connie Mayfield, dean of fine arts and communications, said, “The Faculty Gala includes performances by both full and part time faculty. Occasionally, members of the Cerritos (College) faculty will bring in outside performers for ensemble, usually people our faculty members perform with regularly.”
“Dr. Andrew Maz, who is in his first year of full-time teaching at Cerritos (College), will be performing on the classical guitar.” Mayfield said.
“(The Faculty Gala) is an event that gives our faculty a chance to be seen in a context outside the classroom,” Mayfield continued, “Every faculty member of the music department majored in a specific instrument, and in the process of acquiring either a master’s degree or doctoral degree, developed true proficiency as a performer.”
The Music Department faculty seem excited for this semester’s Faculty Gala, as the concert has been presented at Cerritos College for over 25 years.
