The fourth installment of the Gears of War franchise “Gears of War: Judgment” hit stores on March 19.
People Can Fly took over and did an amazing job in keeping the true Gears feeling. Everything from the curb-stomping, lancer shooting, grub kicking atmosphere. Keeping true to Epic Game’s original concept.
Judgment takes place 14 years before the original Gears of War which was released in 2006. It is all in the perspective of Kilo Squad lead by fan favorite Damon Baird who is a part of The Coalition of Ordered Governments, or the COG, all in pursuit to take down the Locust army.
Judgment of course was faster, more intense, and took the action to a whole new lever.
“Gears of War: Judgment” has a surprise for fans. The game had not only one, but two campaigns to play, “Judgment” and “Aftermath.” “Aftermath” is a continuation of the Gears of War 3 story, but it must be unlocked In order to be played.
Some basics got altered. Players no longer carry the standard rifle, shot gun, and pistol. Instead they can only choose two guns and get one grenade for their arsenal.
The D-pad no is no longer used for switching weapons, now it is just the Y button, and to throw grenades it is the LB button.
Some fans didn’t like that the control were altered, “The controls didn’t have that classic gears feel.” said Joshua Canales Business major. “Other than that I cant think of any cons.”
Online game play consists of the classic Team Death Match and some exciting new additions.
Free for All is a game mode where its everyone versus everyone, so you are on your own. Can you spell intense action?
Another new mode which was featured in the BETA, was exclusive to certain fans as a blend between the game modes “Beast Mode” and “Horde Mode” called “Over Run.”
Basically instead of it just being the locust trying to take down bots, or being COG and fighting waves of locust, it is players versus players. The COGS soul purpose is to prevent the Locust from destroying E-Hole covers; The Locust’s is the exact opposite.
Russo Gallegos who is an art major said, “Over Run is Amazing!”
Last but not least Domination, which has nothing to do with Dom, but it’s very similar to King of the Hill, which was featured in “Gears of War 3” but instead of just one ring it’s three.
Though many admitted that it took some time to get used to the controls, after that, the game doesn’t disappoint.
Canales had his doubt because “Gears of War 3” was a disappointment to him. He felt it was rushed. For him, judgment was different. “People Can Fly made so many improvements to the 4th installation to Gears.”
Elder Aveno, undecided major, said “It’s worth every penny.”
