Netflix premiered “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” on Oct. 26 with much anticipation, it is spine-chilling, magnificent and well done with its characters, cinematography and setting.
“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” made its spooky grand entrance to a new generation of viewers, just in time for Halloween with its satanic coming-of-age story circling around television’s beloved teenage witch, Sabrina Spellman.
The rebooted series also welcomed back well-known characters such as the beloved Salem the cat, Harvey Kinkle, Hilda and Zelda Spellman.
New characters were introduced in the series, such as Sabrina’s mentor-figure cousin, Ambrose Spellman.
The cinematography of the show was well done by visually giving the audience a 1970’s gothic retro-theme setting, which fit perfectly for its dark content.
The cinematography, visually, gave the audience a horror-like sensation inspired by classic horror films such as “The Exorcist” and “Rosemary’s Baby.”
The horror theme made the series really stand out as it included scenes with witchcraft, Satanism, the supernatural and the performance of human sacrifice.
Throughout the show there were many bone-chilling scenes that would make anyone’s skin crawl in the night, which is perfect for any horror-genre fanatic.
The series explores political topic of feminism and the #MeToo movement themes with its characters talking about the importance of resistance towards gender discrimination, sexual harassment and female empowerment which are relevant to today’s society.
The series knew how to harmoniously combine horror and politics without falling out of balance.
In the small town of Greendale, half-mortal half-witch Sabrina Spellman, played by Kiernan Shipka, approaches her 16th birthday.
This meant the preparation of a traditional dark baptism ritual, in which she must critically choose between the witch world of her family or the human world with her friends, while fighting evil forces that want to control her life.
The new spin on “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” series is based off the comic book series published in 2014 as part of the “Afterlife with Archie” comic series.
This series is alternatively different from the 1990’s sitcom, “Sabrina: The Teenage Witch,” starting Melissa Joan Hart, for which many millennials grew up watching and adore.
It was satisfying to see that the series stayed true to the comic book series as much as possible with its plot and the including a “Riverdale” easter egg throughout the show.
It is speculated that the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and “Riverdale” will have a possible cross-over in the near future.
Since “Riverdale” season 3 is transitioning to a supernatural theme, it is no doubt and surprise that Sabrina Spellman and the “Riverdale” character cast will cross path with each other.
