After the anticipated wait we have been blessed with Drake’s fourth studio album “Views”.
Views is an Apple Music Exclusive.
Drake had us all waiting for the album to drop since 2014 when he announced it to Billboard.
Last February he dropped If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, which was a great mixtape.
He then dropped What A Time To Be Alive with Future in September. All of this new music was great but we were still waiting for ‘Views from the 6.’
So how is this long awaited project that we have been waiting for?
In one word: eh.
When Drake dropped two singles from his project, “Pop Style” and “One Dance” earlier this month, everyone thought we were in for something great.
This tone of Drake has been heard before.
In most songs he proclaims his greatness while laminating over relationships gone wrong.
If that sounds like his previous album “Take Care” you are not mistaken.
It’s not that the project is bad, because it isn’t.
The real problem is that this is an inferior version of Drake that we have all heard before.
The album does have its highlights. When “Hype” and “One Dance” play it picks up the album a bit.
The album featured recent popular hits from the Canadian rapper, such as Hotline Bling, One Dance (ft. Wizkid and Kyla) and Controlla- although Popcaan’s original feature has been removed for the album.
He surprisingly also removed Kanye and Jay Z’s sufficiently short verses from Pop Style.
Although some highly-rated artists have been detached from the album, there is some outstanding features bulking up the track list.
‘With you’ featuring fellow Canadian RnB singer PartyNextDoor, is an example of the beautiful music the pair can create together, following their last team up on ‘Come and See Me.’
There must be something in the Canadian water.
The album really contributes to Drake’s exceptional collection of work and the cold Canadian temperatures is just what hip-hop needs in the current musical climate.
There are going to be some fun singles off this album. Is Future available for What A Time To Be Alive 2?
With this realease he announced that he is going on tour with Future this summer.
Here’s to you, 6-God.
