ActressTiffani Thiessen is sponsoring an essay contest in recognition of Mary Shelly and her novel, Frankenstein.
Roger Ernest, English Instructor says, “This is to get students exited about writing and seeing how students can really apply the skills that they learn in their English composition and English literature classes.”
The Liberal Arts English Department will award up to three prizes totaling $500 for the best essays that argue the influences of Shelley.
“We were lucky enough to have Tiffani Thiessen support the efforts of students in areas of scholarship and give us a $500 budget for this first Frankenstein literary essay contest and we are very excited ,” Ernest added.
Pre-law student, Chris Larkins, who will be participating in the contest said, “I like to write and I’ve always been kind of curious to see how my writing will stand up against somebody else’s.”
“Thiessen thought it was a great opportunity to have students really see that the Hollywood versions of Frankenstein are really only as result of Mary Shelly who wrote Frankenstein,” Ernest said.
Students who are interested in participating in the contest may pick up entry forms in the Liberal Arts office and submit them by Apr. 6.
Thiessen will be presenting the checks on Apr. 23 in the Teleconference room at 10 a.m.
