The Associated Students of Cerritos College is begining the applications process for the 2003 presidential elections.
The application became available to the student body on monday.
Students can go pick up the application in the Office of Student Activities, located near the bookstore.
“So far we have only had two students pick up applications for the elections,” said Liz Monge, program assistant in student activites.
There are requirements that the candidates have to meet before being placed on the 2003 ballot.
Students also must have a 2.25 GPA from previous semester before term and during office term.
Must have five units during the term in office.
Can not have a failing grade in class the semester before term. and must be in sophmore standing.
There are a couple of other requirements the candidates need to meet before they are offically on the ballot.
The Presidential candidate needs to know who their running mate is when coming to pick up the application.
One of the last things the candidates need to do is have a 100 people (students) sign a petiton so that the candidates can be placed on the ballot.
“The 100 students that sign the petiton have to be valid students. So their mom and dad can’t sign the petiton so they can run for office,” Monge said.
When applicant is done filling the requirements for the ballot, the ballot can be turned into student activities.
The numbers that will be given for the official ballot for elections will be a reflection of which candidate turns thie application in first.
The deadline for submission of applications is March 28 by 4 p.m.
The presidential elections will be held on April 23 and 24.
