AUTHORIZATIONThe Board of Trustees of the Cerritos Community College District exists under and derives its powers from the Constitution of the State of California and the acts of the Legislature of the State of California.GOVERNMENT AND ELECTIONSGovernance of the Cerritos Community College District is vested in a Board of Trustees composed of seven members elected at large by the qualified electorate of the District.Elections are held biennially, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each succeeding odd-numbered year to fill the offices of members whose terms expire on the first Friday in December next succeeding the election. Terms of members expire for four members one year and three members the next succeeding odd-numbered year. Each member serves a term of four years. EC 5000 (1990)EligibilityAny person, regardless of gender, who is 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the state, a resident of the community college district, a registered voter, and who is not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office, is eligible to be elected or appointed a member of a governing board of a community college district without further qualifications. TermEach person elected at a regular biennial governing board election shall hold office for a term of four years from the first Friday in December following his/her election. Any member of the governing board of any community college district whose term has expired shall continue to discharge the duties of his/her office until a successor has been qualified. EC 5017 (1990)
