One hundred club and faculty members introduced themselves at the Advisor and Officer luncheon on Tuesday at the Student Center.
During the events, the upcoming Hoe Down Days events, applications for ASCC president, and club announcements were discussed.
“For the Hoe Down Days event if any of the club memeber will be participating make sure to turn in the activities request form,” Dean Ackland, coordinator of student activities said.
He added that those who have not, to utilize communication by email or going to the Student Activities building to find out when the application need be turned in.
Alex Armendariz, president of the phirhopi club agreed.
“The purpose of having an event like this (luncheon) is to build communication, not only between each other,” he said, “but also build confidence.”
The club, Armendariz said gives people the chance to “express themselves.”
Cosmetology advisor Nina Motruk also agreed that club members needed to know that its department was also important.
“Students need to know about what the cosmetology department has to offer, she adds, “and supports students.”
In addition, The American Red Cross Blood Drive which, will be held Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 in the Student Center will also return to Cerritos College.
“Cerritos College is the No. 1 college of blood donor in the state,” Ackland said, “because of club involvement.”
Also announced was the Hoe Down Days event that will be held on March 14 through March 15.
The three day event will feature carnival booths, rock climbing, and chili cook off, the Mr. Cerritos contest and In-N-Out Burger.
According to Ackland, for those club members interested there would be 20 booths available.
“The student activities will provide the games and prizes,” he said, “and the clubs will keep the money as fundraiser.”
Applications for a new student body president will also be available on Feb. 27 as current ASCC president Paulo Amaral will leave after the semester.
Amaral offered to give guidance to any club member interested.
“I am here to help and let me know,” he said.
Ackland added, “Cerritos College will like to keep the tradition of having a dedicated, and good sound leader (in a ASCC president).”
