He is described as a cross between reggae legends Bob Marley and Sholmo Charlebach.
Matisyahu (born Matthew Miller; name changed after a visit to Israel) has released one of the most highly anticipated singles, “King Without a Crown,” from his upcoming CD, Youth (Sony Records) to be released on Mar. 7. At first listen, I thought that Bob Marley was singing the song, but another glance revealed the song was not sung by the reggae singer, but Matisyahu.
It can only be described as a feel-good song because of what the message of the song is; The spiritually of life.
“You’re all that I have and you’re all that I need/Each and everyday I pray to know you please/I want to be close to you, yes I’m so hungry/You’re like water for my soul when it gets thirsty/Without you there’s no me,” Matisyahu begins to sing.
These lyrics are about the purpose of living one’s life for the person you care about.
With the popularity of the spiritual side of life, instead of the religious part of life, what makes this song appealing is its ability to connect those who are looking for a change for the better when they don’t know where to turn.
Where’s the spiritually message, you ask? It is in the following lyrics, “Strip away the layers and reveal your soul/Got to give yourself up and then you become whole,” Matisyahu sings.
Listening further, I can see the appeal of the song. With the combination of keyboard and guitar, it gives the song a reggae-feel.
Matisyahu can be considered the next big star.
The song has such appeal because of its message that it could be used for a commerical or upcoming film where the plot leads to the end.
To all music fans who don’t know who Matisyahu is, you will, as you listen to this song.
Don’t be surprised if you find yourself dancing or blasting the volume on the radio while listening.
It is that good.
