Ever had the guts to make fun of Hollywood’s most talked about celebrities? Apparently one artist is not afraid to do so.
Pink, (born Alecia Moore) the rock star who turned heads if not ears when she released her first album Can’t Take Me Home (La Face Records) in 2000, returns to the music scene with her latest single “Stupid Girls” from her upcoming CD, I’m Not Dead (Apr. 4).
During the song, Pink has the guts to name names, in the single, such as, “Go to Fred Segal, you’ll find them there/Laughing loud so all the little people stare/Looking for a daddy to pay for champagne.”
Fred Segal is not the only name to be mentioned. The single also includes rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson when Pink continues with, “What happened to the dreams of a girl president/She’s dancing in the video next to 50 Cent.”
What is so appealing about the song is it’s simple: Pink!
The chorus is funny because Pink expresses herself when she says, “Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back/What a paparazzi girl, I don’t wanna be a stupid girl/Baby if I act like that, flipping my blonde hair back/Put up me bra like that, I don’t wanna be a stupid girl.”
Hollywood has said that “thin is in” but, apparently not to this singer.
This is apparent in the interlude of the dialogue in which Pink says, “Oh my god you guys, I totally had more than 300 calories/That was so not sexy, no/Good one can I borrow that?/(Vomits)/I WILL BE SKINNY.”
My first thought, “What a brilliant song because of the fact that Pink was able to pull off making fun of others including herself.”
Pink’s last album, Try This, was a sales disappointment (sales of over 1 million copies) however, looking past that and into the future, and looking for ways to connect to women with her music it has to be said that the woman has vocals on her, and to pull off a song like this makes her return to the music scene that much more anticipated.
More artists should take note.
