The Model UN conference held on April 21-25 was a great learning experience, ASCC President and Model UN member Paulo Amaral said during the ASCC Senate meeting last Wednesday.
In additon, ASCC Vice President Charlene Angsuco passed out an agenda for those students who would consider running for student government next year.
Furthermore, Senator Karla Marquez said that the Cerritos College Faculty Federation and the Board of Trustees are close to a resolution to end the faculty contract dispute.
Lastly, the ASCC Budget for the 2006-07 fiscal year was unanimously approved.
Amaral said that during the Model UN conference “the members learned to draft resolutions and all of the members who attended did a terrific job.”
Amaral pointed out that the United Nations of the Far West is a non-profit institution that helps students understand government policies.
Having publicity for the Model UN and the fact that the club is relatively new to Cerritos College was a great way for those students who are interested in the subject to learn more about what the club is all about, Amaral explained.
“I invite all ASCC Senators to come to the Model UN meetings,” he said, “and you will fall in love with the club because of what the members are trying to accomplish.
“I sincerely would like to thank the ASCC Senate for allowing me as well as the other six members to attend this great and wonderful conference,” he concluded.
Angsuco said that it was important for those who will replace outgoing members of the student government “to know what to expect when they are (appointed or elected to their positions).”
Over the last year, both the CCFF and the Board of Trustees have been trying to negotiate a fair and reasonable contract for full-time and part-time instructors on campus.
The CCFF has approved a resolution contract, which would end it’s disputes with the Board.
The wording of the contract that the CCFF voted on was not disclosed at the meeting.
