As the “Show Pride in Your Campus” campaign approaches (Oct. 19), flyers will be posted throughout campus restrooms to notify students to keep it clean, ASCC President Joe Cobarrubio said during the ASCC Cabinet meeting Oct. 2.
Also, Cobarrubio displayed a printout of what the Cerritos College campus will probably look like within the next 10 years as the campus continues its renovation of new and old buildings due in large part to G.O. Bond passed more than two years ago.
One of the buildings that will soon be replaced is the Burnight Theatre and it’s a possibility that building will be where parking C-10 now stands, Cobarrubio commented.
“The amphitheater will also be gone,” Cobarrubio said, “and I know that it’s where some students spend all of their time.”
Cobarrubio also said that the only building that will not be torn down is the Student Center, but when Cobarrubio and ASCC Vice President Alex Armendariz meet with the Board of Trustees on Oct. 6, he will have further details about the campus changes.
Addressing the amphitheater’s possible demise, Holly Bogdanovich, director of student activities, suggested that Cabinet members make suggestions to the architects about what they feel is “good and bad about Falcon Square with or without the amphitheater.”
Since students will be helping to keep the campus clean, Armendariz said that students will now have somewhere to call in case the restroom around the campus are in need of attention.
“Students were asking before where they could report about the cleanliness of the restrooms,” he said, “and now they have the number where they can call.”
In addition, now that there is a visible phone number Armendariz said that students are able to not only report that the restrooms need attention, but that students can be alert about vandalism or overflowing problems with toilets or sinks.
