Steven Sinkewicz, commissioner of vocational outreach, abruptly resigned from his position on Monday during the ASCC Cabinet meeting.
During the meeting Sinkewicz said, “I have decided to resign as commissioner of vocational outreach, because being in the position of commissioner of vocational outreach has taken me away from my studies in all of my classes.”
Furthermore, he did mention that he took offense to a recent article printed in the Talon Marks and additionally he and an unidentified person had disputed in what he described is “gender equality.”
As to what or whom Sinkewicz was referring to however, remained unclear. Sinkewicz, who was appointed as commissioner of vocational outreach at the mid-term of last year, said during his confirmation that his main concern was for student education and that he was excited to help out the ASCC Cabinet.
Members of the Cabinet, however, reacted with shock and surprise as Sinkewicz quickly left the meeting after his announcement without any further comment.
In addition, Sinkewicz could not be reached for further comment as to why he left.
Both ASCC President Joe Cobarrubio and ASCC Vice President Alex Armendariz were as surprised and were unaware that Sinkewicz was going to resign.
Immediately following the conclusion of the meeting, Cobarrubio attempted to contact Sinkewicz by phone to see if both of them could have a discussion as to why he unexpectedly decided not to continue as commissioner of vocational outreach.
Afterward, Armendariz said he was not only surprised by Sinkewicz’s resignation but also hoped to get to the bottom of the reason why.
“(Joe and I) hope to sit down with him,” Armendariz said, “and ask him what’s up and why?”
He added that at this point, to him it is also unclear as to why someone who has been a “great commissioner within his position”would resign quickly and without knowing the real reason why.
Armendariz added that Sinkewicz had not discussed this with either him or Cobarrubio about resigning before the Cabinet.
Cobarrubio said he is currently looking in as to what caused Sinkewicz to leave suddenly and declined to comment further on the resignation.
