Could it be true that Aerosmith is releasing a greatest-hits album?
Well, yes, as the band’s greatest hits titled, “Devil’s Got a New Disguise” (Columbia Records) and of course what makes the rocking band still going strong with more than 30 years of hits is lead singer Steven Tyler.
The lead singer who has kept the Boston-based classical rock band going for as long as he has just like Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones still has it going strong and with now a greatest hits album for fans to pick up, what a way for them to remember what has made them famous.
As fans listen to the album the selection is worth the time for the CD to be in the CD player and to know that the music is worth a listen, and furthermore, what not to love about the band itself.
Throughout the album and Aerosmith’s career they have not released music that a fan could not to listen to and the band continues to do music that is great for fans and a first listen to the greatest hits compilation it gives fans who have followed Aerosmith a chance to go back and see the success they have had and continue to have more than 30 years later.
With hits such as “Dream On” to “Sweet Emotion” to the eternal song, “Crazy”, Aerosmith has never sounded so good. Why do I say that, you ask?
Throughout the album you can hear what makes the music of classical rock great and you wonder why haven’t they thought of releasing the album with these songs on them earlier? I’m wondering that myself.
For good measure there are 18 tracks in total. Why not just release a double disc album like the Red Hot Chili Peppers did with its latest album “Stadium Aradium” but fans shouldn’t complain that much.
With the lead single, “Dream On”, Tyler’s vocals are the sounding of a young man with lyrics such as:
“Sing with me, sing for the years/sing for the laughter and sing for the tears/sing with me, if it’s just for today /maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away/dream on, dream on, dream on/dream yourself a dream come true ?”
However, as each song goes in much later into the band’s success and popularity, you can hear Tyler maturing into a man who is not afraid to express himself; again, much like Jagger.
In addition to the music of just the classical rock of Aerosmith, Tyler does turn into a soft ballad singer with the song, “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” the theme song from movie soundtrack to “Armageddon” which starred his daughter Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck.
The song written by songwriter Darren Warren fits the vocal range of Tyler well because he is willing to let go of the classical rock and he exposes a side that is heartfelt and because his daughter asked him to sing the song. With each song throughout the album Tyler, as well as the band, deliver one thing: great classic rock.
