The continued possibility of carpool lanes was discussed at the Cabinet meeting on Monday.
The proposal to have carpool lanes in the parking was first suggested by Senator Jaime Sandoval back in early February.
In addition, during the Senate meeting last Wednesday Sandoval said that there are still preliminary discussions between him and Vice President of Student Service Stephen Johnson.
Furthermore, there is also a survey of standard requirements that will soon be distributed throughout campus for student feedback on the carpool system that is being discussed. The purpose of the survey is to see how the carpool system will fit into the campus and whether or not is will relief the traffic in the student parking lots.
As for the amount of questions that will be asked, it is still unknown. More information was provided about the carpool system March 20.
ASCC Vice President Jason Macias commented that with the survey faculty will also provide information to be exchanged and whether or not the carpool program will work.
Currently, there is a carpool lane is parking lot C-4 according to, Macias.
“There are very important issues that need to be taken into consideration,” Johnson stated.
“Mostly logistical concerns, but we also need to take into account whether or not this will be a service to the students.”
Johnson stressed that there are a number of students who already carpool, but that there still need to raise awareness about modes of public transportation, whether it be the local bus lines, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority or carpool.
Moreover, there is always a possibility of Cerritos having a transit program like Rio Hondo College has called, “Go Rio” that is a partnership with the MTA, and Foothill Transit that provides full-time students a free bus pass.
But again ASCC President Joe Cobarrubio said that although there is not an official program there is still much research to be done.
