The Political Science club is getting closer to having a “Know Your Rights” Campaign on campus announced at the ASCC Cabinet meeting on Monday.
Michael Barrita, commissioner of external affairs, said that the club is looking into having flyers distributed throughout the campus for students to know what their basic rights are.
Currently, he stated that the flyer that was created has been approved but looked toward having any suggestions submitted by commissioner of student outreach Joelle Lai.
As for what was in the proposed handout was what rights students had if faced with the possibility of arrest, police brutality.
“I think that it’s important to have this information out there because there are students who don’t utilize their rights,” Barrita said.
The idea to have this campaign was similar to the one that was held by the Political Science club when it held the “Voice Your Opinion” campus at the end of January.
It gave Cerritos students the opportunity to send an e-mail to President Bush about his ineffective Iraq war policies that led to the war on terrorism.
Barrita said with the handout that students will now know what to do if they are violate or just don’t know what their rights are.
