The Gay Straight Alliance at Cerritos College is “tearing down the closet” one meeting at a time.
It meets every Wednesday in SL109 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The GSA will be conducting a rally on Sept. 30 at Falcon Square to support “NO” on Prop. 8 and will provide baked goods and informational pamphlets to everyone who attends.
With an air of friendliness, President Alex Aguayo and Vice President Joshua Kaanaana made their first GSA meeting a success.
The meeting started with everyone in the room introducing themselves and optionally stating their reasons for attending, giving a warm welcoming feeling to all the people there.
“We want to be there for people who need friends or someone to talk to,” Aguayo stated.
Kaanaana concurred, “We want to tear down the closet so that people don’t have to be offended or ashamed to be themselves.”
The meeting consisted of information on issues such as gay marriage and rights.
Aguayo and Kaanaana also emphasized on facts about Proposition 8 and encourage people to vote no.
“It literally strips a right away from a person,” Aguayo said.
