Michael Barrita, ASCC president was present last Tuesday as a preacher made second time attempts to spread the word of God to students here at campus.
” I came out here because I saw that he was singling out the students and saying that they were all going to hell,” explained Barrita.
With a huge picket sign, the preacher marched back and forth proclaiming that God was our only salvation and we must repent before it was too late.
The preachers have made themselves quite popular this semester. Whether students disagree or agree with their sermons, the preachers don’t seem to hesitate when making their decision to come back.
Campus Police was present at the last preacher’s event, to make sure everything was kept under control.
“I called campus police, because it was getting out of hand, they have freedom of speech, but once they start calling students out then it’s not okay anymore,” said Barrita.
From an obvious point of view, anybody could see that the preachers presence wasn’t well received. With statements like: ” If you don’t believe HE raised from the dead, than you’re the biggest idiot ever,” came from the preacher’s lively sermon.
Students listening to this were clearly offended and shouted back in rebuttal .
” I think it’s an invasion of privacy, we don’t come to school to be told what to believe in,” said Maria Morales, biology major.
According to the preacher he made it clear that lesbians and gays were all going to hell for their ways. Two young women in the crowd though otherwise and decided to take a stance. They stood up embraced and kissed in front students and the preacher to see.
” They do this on purpose, the preachers just come back to mess with the students because they know the reaction they will evoke out of them,” explained Barrita.
