Clubs from Cerritos College announced upcoming events at the first Inter-Club Council meeting of the 2009 spring semester that took place Jan. 22.
The Black Student Union announced that it will have a celebration for the black history month.
It will be having guest speakers on campus, live entertainment and more.
Tito Benavides, WMPD Broadcasting Club president, encouraged the clubs to get involved with the campus radio station.
Clubs could use the Cerritos College radio station as an information outlet, Benavides said, any clubs interested can produce commercials with his help.
Scott Watkins, Talon Marks editor-in-chief, announced the blog spot for the online edition of the newspaper.
Clubs are invited to create a blog to announce their activities or anything else they want.
The scholarship fund coalition announced that they will be having a car wash in February and encouraged the clubs to get involve.
Steven Del Castillo, Scholarship Funds Coalition secretary planner, said, “We will be having a car wash next month in Norwalk, but we don’t have a set date yet.”
There are seven clubs that joined the cause so far. They are:
- Applied Science Engineering and Technology Club,
- Chicanos for Community Medicine Club,
- Cosmetology Club,
- International Students Association,
- Phi Theta Kappa,
- Political Science Club and
- Puente Club.
The Student Health and Wellness Center announced the Valentine’s blood drive.
The blood drive will be from Feb. 9-12.
Rob Torrez, senior field manager for the American Red Cross, said, “We have a yearly friendly contest between the clubs during the blood drive. The club that brings the most people to donate blood will win a pizza party and will also receive a crystal drop award.”
Torrez encourages students to go out and donate blood.
“Cerritos College is the best community college in southern California in blood donation,” he said.
Cerritos College has students that want to help their community, he is very proud of them, he said.
