After multiple English professors read almost 40 essays for the Women’s History Month essay contest, they were finally able to find their winner and the first place spot went to Dorin Dorin.
Dorin is a student at Cerritos.
She wrote an outstanding essay about Hilary Clinton and how she idolizes her and what she stands for.
The other two winners were Kristina Hale in second and Alanis Zia in third.
“I really liked them all. It was a nice variety of essays,” Diane Keenan, economics professor, said.
Dorin’s essay talked about the background behind Clinton before she ran for secretary of state and before she was in the mere spotlight.
Dorin gave a nice portrait of Clinton as a person and she also gave detail on her meet and greet she experienced when she met Clinton at a book signing.
Dorin stated, “Clinton helped her get to know America before she moved to California.”
Dorin also explained in her essay that she picked up a biography book about Clinton when she lived in Indonesia and that’s when her interest for Clinton began.
The top three essay winners will be honored on March 18 at the Board of Trustees meeting.
The first place winner will receive her award with $125 to go along with it.
The second place winner will receive $100.
The third place winner will receive a $75 check.
