“I don’t make promises, I am about showing what I am about through my actions,” newly elected Student Trustee Felipe Grimaldo said.
Grimaldo beat four other candidates during the ASCC elections last Wednesday and Thursday.
Grimaldo received 237 votes of the near 700 others receiving votes were Rosa Castaneda with 214, Brian Kochems with 171 and Tiffany La Shawn Woolfolk with 67 votes.
According to Holly Bogdanovich, director of Student Activities, the number of votes this year nearly doubled the turnout from last Student Trustee elections.
This is the second year there was a separate election for Student Trustee.
Last semester, the student body voted to separate the ASCC President and Student Trustee positions.
Grimaldo served in Marines for four years, spending two tours in Iraq.
He said that the Marines prepared to work hard in school because it is instilled that when you a Marine, you are held to higher standard. And he still holds himself to a higher standard.
There are many things that Grimaldo wants to do as Student Trustee.
“There needs to be more security on campus, because you have to be prepared if something happens,” Grimaldo said.
One way he wants to increase safety on campus is by pushing to add security station around the school so people can push a button to contact the police in case of an emergency.
He also wants to make sure that he is fully aware of what is going on in both the ASCC Senate and Cabinet.
“I want to make sure attend all the meeting the ASCC have so I can make sure I know exactly what are the issues facing the students,” he said.
