As a result of the thefts that occurred last week in the Fine Arts Department, the Music and Theater Departments have made a conscious effort to keep the facilities safe.
Thusfar, no thefts have been reported since last week.
Through vigorous word of mouth warnings and last week’s article, students were informed about what exactly was going on.
“Professors brought up the theft situation before class to help keep us informed,” said Mary Ann Zacariaz, music major.
Another idea has even been proposed to putting up signs saying, “We are watching you,” much like in the George Orwell novel, “1984.” Even though it seems like the actions already taken have directly resulted in the positive turn around of security in the Fine Arts Department.
In a branch of Cerritos College, that often refers to itself as a family, it seems what might have been a counteractive trait is now proving to be a leading force into what is helping keep everyone safe.
“We all had to adapt and are more curious to not only our surroundings, but our peers surroundings as well,” said Josue Orazco, music major.
Through the recent unfortunate events, the music and theater staff are committed to moving on and focusing on what makes the respective programs so successful.
“We have a great staff and a motivated group of students, we have even been able to approve a new nine-week class, history of rock music, which starts Oct. 9, said Rosemary Medina, secretary of the Music Department.
