In the wake of perhaps the most highly talked about Faculty Senate meeting, The Associated Students of Cerritos College’s main topic on agenda in its Wednesday afternoon meeting was how to continue to campaign on the recent issue of Cerritos College’s hiring committee.
This became a topic of debate when the ASCC caught wind of the Human Resources department introducing a draft that makes a non-voting student member of the hiring committee optional.
“We need to keep up the good effort, it is through our efforts that future generations will benefit,” ASCC president, Oscar Franco, said during the ASCC’s Wednesday meeting.
With many leaving last Wednesday’s meeting inspired, the question that arose during the ASCC meeting was how exactly to go about following up and in what time frame.
“I am looking at it in terms of strategy, it is a process, I could see some people who were originally against it starting to be swayed” Franco added, who’s original thoughts of a timley strategy were contradicted by Rosa Castaneda, ASCC Vice President.
“I think going to each and every meeting in large numbers would create momentum. I would encourage everyone to go,” Castaneda said.
Being the vice president, Castaneda is ultimately in charge of making the decision on whether to appear at the Faculty Senate meeting.
While there is still uncertainty on how to attack this issue there is still widespread support, “I think it’s a good thing that they offer to be a voice for many students that at times don’t feel they have one at all,” Art and Design major Orlando Dominguez said.
The next Faculty Senate meeting is on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the board room.
“I would encourage everyone to go, it is important to express your voice, no matter what the issue,” Castaneda added.
