Cerritos College student Stevie Merino is seeking to run for mayor of Long Beach in the April 13 citywide elections against its incumbent Bob Foster .
Although the 21-year-old will not officially be considered a candidate until she submits her required paperwork and 20 signatures of registered voters by the Jan. 15 deadline, her campaign manager Douglas Kauffman stated that she is taking the campaign seriously.
He said, ““She is genuinely challenging Foster. She is not doing any sort of college project.”
Merino, who is affiliated with the Party for Socialism and Liberation in Los Angeles, will be running an openly socialist campaign, said Kauffman.
He added that Merino will not be available for comment until Wednesday afternoon.
