Thirty students were asked around campus if they were aware that Cerritos College had social networks such as MySpace, facebook, and twitter.
Six out of the 30 knew and the remaining 24 students had no idea.
Twenty-five of those students said that they would consider adding Cerritos College to their personal page.
Kenia Herrera, nursing major, said, “it’s good because, it’s a way to communicate with people.”
However, the other 5 students rejected the idea of adding them to their networks.
“I would just rather keep my social life and school separate,” said administrative justice major, Eleana Perez.
These networks could be a vital source of information for students.
By having these networks available to students it allows the college to give updated information to its students.
The sites are updated weekly, sometimes more often; the same information is provided on all three networks.
The goal of creating these social networks is to inform and remind students about upcoming deadlines and important dates.
It also serves as a way to alert students about any emergency that occurs on campus.
Mark Santa Ines, school relations web author, said that campus police contacted him about two weeks ago asking if they could use the sites, “in case of an emergency.”
Students can also log into the networks to check the recent Cerritos College sports outcome; to find out about upcoming school events, like club day or a school plays.
Other colleges have their own social networks as well, some of which include Cypress College, Long Beach City College, El Camino College, and Rio Hondo College.
To find easy links to each site just visit Cerritos College Home Page and it is provided on the bottom of the student section.
