A cure for cancer is one that is sought out by many in the world. With millions of people of dying from this disease globally, people are in need of finding a cure to help save themselves or even a loved one.
Cerritos College is doing it’s part by hosting the Norwalk Relay for Life, but others have joined the cause as well.
Vintage Cerritos, the retirement home on New Falcon Way has been doing its part by raising money for cancer. A bake sale was held Wednesday to in order to help raise money for the Relay for Life.
“All of the profit is going toward Relay for Life and so far we’ve had good business,” said Frances Ray Deutsch, ambassador and resident of Vintage Cerritos.
With an array of goodies including oatmeal cookies, brownies and even some vodka cupcakes, residents gathered around to pick up their treats.
“This is the first bake sale I have ever been too here at home, but I picked up some peanut butter cookies,” said Michael Downs, resident.
The bake sale began at 9:30a.m. and ended at 3p.m. and Deutsch was there from beginning to end.
“We should definitely have more bake sales like these since it goes to a really good cause,” Deutsch mentioned.
She also mentioned that out of the 144 residents at the home, there are 6 cancer survivors which will be attending the Relay for Life.
Another event Vintage Cerritos was holding was a Balloon releasing ceremony.
“Participants write a message on a piece of paper and we will attach it to a balloon and release it at the ceremony,” Deutsch said.
The balloon messages are $3 and the ceremony will take place May 27.
