Valentine’s Day is a day where people have a chance to show love and affection with gifts, and flowers; for a few campus clubs, it was a chance to help students and their clubs alike.
On Feb. 14, five clubs, including the Karbrakada Club, had booths out on Falcon Square and the Social Science Patio to fundraise for their clubs.
“(The Karbrakada Club) were selling Carnations for our fundraiser. People need to buy gifts for their loved ones, and we are spreading the love,” Chris Strawder, publicist of the Kardrakada Club, said.
The booths were also out to help those students who may have forgot to buy their significant others a gift before they came on campus.
“Believe it or not, people forget and say ‘oh, today is Valentines day, I forgot and I didn’t get a gift,’ and we just so happened to be here,” Areal Hughes, president of Phi Theta Kappa, said.
The Child Development Club also saw how Valentines Day helped students at the school.
“This bake sale helps to show that we are a club, and we also have child development majors, and other majors come out, and we have a chance to mingle,” Breanne Perung, president of the child development Club, said.
With the time that the clubs had, clubs feel that they used the best of it.
“(The Environmental Club) has only been out here for 10 minutes, and we already made $6, and that’s progress,” Jennifer Hughes, president of Environmental Club, said.
Phi Theta Kappa also had success in the time they were out there.
“From my understanding [since 10 a.m.], we have made $130, and that’s just the cash,” Hughes said.
The SPICE Club also sold well by selling its goods at a low price.
“We have been doing well since we got out of here at 10 a.m.; everything has been selling quickly. We have a lot of things to sell; we’ve been selling at a giveaway price, so we are getting rid of everything,” president of the SPICE Club, Claudia Gonzalez, said.
Clubs are raising funds for future events for those who participate in the club.
“This sale will help us do more events and fundraisers to benefit the club,” Strawder said.
“We are using this bake sale to raise money to take our money to Disneyland at the end of the semester,” Gonzalez said.
Phi Theta Kappa had similar intentions of both clubs.
“We are raising funds for a trip or event for everyone to enjoy,” Hughes said.
