The Cerritos College softball team received its second consecutive loss on Feb. 2 against Palomar College with the score of 5-0.
With sophomore pitcher Jessica Lozano at the mount through out the whole game, eight hits were made and only two strikeouts were recorded.
“We didn’t play our game today, we played theirs,” Lozano said.
A throwing error by the falcons pitcher put the comets’ lead-off hitter on base in the top of the first inning.
A single by the Comets right-fielder brought in the lead off hitter and put a run on the board.
The falcons first hit came in the bottom of the third inning with a single by freshman outfielder Courtney Priddle, but was left on base after freshman shortstop Briana Quintana flied out to right field.
To start of the top of the fourth inning, the Comets right-fielder singled, and was brought in by their designated hitter, who hit a home run against the falcons pitcher making the score 3-0.
An error by the falcons shortstop Quintana, allowed the Comets to have the bases fully loaded with a chance to score again, but a ground out to falcons freshman second-baseman Stephanie Aguirre ended the inning.
A small glimpse of hope for the falcons showed in the bottom of the sixth inning when Quintana and freshman catcher Jessica Roper both hit singles, but were left on base after freshman Jacqueline Flores stuck out swinging.
The comets scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning ending the game at 5-0.
“The game didn’t go our way, but we have a lot to work on, I mean it just gives us an idea of what we need to work on and its a wake up call for the girls, you have to come play everyday or stay home,” assistant coach Jenel Guadagno said.
With the Palomar game behind them, the women’s softball team traveled to Riverside College where they suffered a 2-1 loss on Friday, dropping its record to 4-5.
