The Cerritos College Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution during its March 2 meeting that would allow trustee elections to coincide with statewide elections on even years.
This resolution would automatically grant four members who were up for re-election this year another year on the board.
According to Cerritos College President Linda Lacy, this was done in order to ease the school’s budget issues.
“This year, when we’re in dire straits, it (the election change) will be beneficial. Last election, we spent $616,000 for our election alone,” Lacy said.
Lacy also said that despite the board’s approval of the resolution, it has yet to be passed by the Los Angeles County Supervisor.
