The Fall 2011 Food Drive Club competition has initially begun since Monday, and it is on its course until Nov. 17, hosted by the Associated Students of Cerritos College.
After the competition has ended, food items will still be received until Dec. 1.
On previous food drives, clubs such as Accounting, Kinesiology, Triathlon, Math, Court Reporting and others have joined the Food Drive competition for the motive of collecting as much food possible to donate to the Norwalk City Chamber.
At the moment, Triathlon Club members have begun collecting food for the competition.
“[We] do it every year,” Triathlon Club member Itza Moreno said. “They do a ‘turkey trot’, which is a competition; it’s kind of like a race around campus, and instead of paying to participate, people bring cans.”
The Turkey Trot will be held on campus on Nov. 17. Winning participants will receive triathlon suits and racing equipment.
After the competition, the ASCC Awards Banquet will be held on Dec. 9 to present the winning club with an award.
ASCC Student Cabinet member David Aguirre explained how students join the food drive through other clubs that they may be involved in.
“I am helping [the] iFalcon [Club], but we haven’t decided whether were going to do it or not.” Aguirre says.
