Project HOPE, with From Maddi’s Closet, is sponsoring a gift card drive, giving away gift cards and greeting cards Oct. 24 through Nov. 10 to patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Danyelle Williams, representing Project HOPE, explains that helping others and volunteering is the main essential and purpose of the group.
She said helping patients from Children’s Hospital LA by bringing joy is a good way to give back to the community and patients who are going through difficulties in their life.
Williams said, “Anything we could do to help children going through difficulty facing cancer, it’s worth it.”
She also added that by bringing greeting cards from individuals, it lets patients know they are not alone.
“It’s going to be our first time volunteering and working together with Maddi’s Closet helping Children’s Hospital LA,” She said.
“Maddi’s Closet is located in La Mirada, named after Madison Holmes, who lost her life battling cancer in Children’s Hospital LA.”
She also added that Project HOPE also helped volunteer during the Red Cross blood drive and Project HOPE Maddis Closet summer carnival where most of the money went to cancer research.
Williams also said, “We even had Project HOPE volunteer last week in an alzheimer’s home in Long Beach.”
Project HOPE Director Maggie Cordero explained that during the beginning of fall, the program decided to plan with From Maddi’s Closet, helping patients from Children Hospital LA on Oct. 24.
Cordero explained that the program decided to give back to the community is by giving them gift cards and greeting cards.
“One thing we are trying to do this year is give out more mostly community service,” she said.
She also added that Project HOPE’s goal next year is still continuing working with other organizations and hopes that this is something that happens every year.
Cordero explained that she is looking forward on helping patients from Children’s Hospital LA facing various diseases.
Cordero also said that next year, Project HOPE will work with the Red Cross, From Maddi’s Closet and the Leukemia & Lymphoma foundation.
She said” We are still going to have tutoring and volunteer work for Project collaborating with these other organizations.’
