The Muslim Student Association of Cerritos College will have a presentation on Nov. 16.
“We’re going to have a guest speaker and he’s going to talk about all the misconceptions about Islamic Americans,” club President and Criminal Justice major Syeda Iftekhar said.
She continued with, “I’m sure a lot of people have questions about the Islamic culture so that’s why we’re doing this.”
The presentation will have a Q&A session to answer any questions about the country or culture.
UCLA’s Muslim Student Association will attend, as well as students from Long Beach City college to answer questions.
“Whatever you see on TV, it doesn’t have to be right all the time. You don’t have to believe in it,” Iftekhar said.
Speaker that will be present represent countries such as Palestine, Pakistan and India.
Iftekhar continued with, “It’s about knowing them, and where they’re from and what we’re representing here.
“People have a misconception that because I wear a scarf, I’m either a prisoner or I’m going to get killed by parents if I take it off.”
M.S.A (Muslim Student Association) is open for anyone to join, not only Muslims.
The presentation will take place in LC155 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
