December is bringing the kids of YMCA in Lakewood an early gift for Christmas from the Cerritos College Kinesiology Club on Dec. 10.
The Kinesiology Club and the YMCA of Lakewood have teamed up to bring about a fund raiser for the Strong Kids Campaign.
The fundraiser was initially promoted and brought about by Kinesiology Club member Michael Inman.
The Strong Kids Campaign helps fund after-school programs at the YMCA for children and teenagers, as Inman explains.
“Some of these programs need to be paid for but people can’t afford them, so the Strong Kids Campaign is all about that.”
The show will be conducted with wrestling matches for the guest to enjoy at six p.m.
Inman, who is also a professional wrestler performing under the name “Rockstar” Mike Cordova, will be participating in these fights against other top-notch wrestlers.
Funds will be raised from the event’s entry fee of $10 for guests older than 14 years old, and $5 for children 13 and under. There will also be booths selling snacks and drinks for guests to enjoy during the show.
Clubs such as the Child Development club and the Veterans club are expected to take part in the fundraiser as well. “The money that they raise through the food, the YMCA has agreed to split the profits with them” Inman said.
Bigger organizations, starting from Epic Pro Wrestling, So Cal Pro Wrestling, Women’s Wrestling, and Magnum Pro are also exclusive “inner” promoters to this event.
Other wrestling talented promoters that will join the wrestling match are Total Nonstop Action wrestler Winter, former Extreme Championship Wrestling superstar New Jack, and WWE wrestler Aaron Aguilera.
Setting up a wrestling match show could cost up to $1,000 to $2,000 just for a ring and crew itself.
However, Inman consulted Epic Pro Wrestling promoter Gary Yep to carry on with the fundraiser plans for the wrestling show at the YMCA.
“In my talks with the promoter, he was definitely wanting to do something to that effect, and so this opportunity came up and he took advantage of it” Inman said, “he said ‘Let’s do this free,’ 100 percent.”
YMCA and Epic Pro Wrestling will be providing the ring, crew, and space to hold this event at no rental charge, leaving all collected funds for the Strong Kids Campaign and the clubs themselves.
