Having a successful semester in college is not as easy as it may sound. For many college students it becomes even more difficult due to the responsibilities of family, jobs, and finances among other things.
Below are five tips to having a successful semester in college.
Number 5 – Flashcards
Many students find flashcards to be helpful. They help students memorize key components of tests and other assignments. They do take a bit of time, repetition and patience in order to enable the full benefits, but flashcards are a very useful tool to having success in college.
Political Science major, Cynthia Chavez stated “Flashcards help me review upcoming tests at any time they are really convenient.”
With time, practice and patience being the key to benefiting from this method it is easy to understand why Flashcards are popular.
Number 4 – Highlighting notes
Highlighting notes is another real good method that students use to while aiming for a passing grade. Highlighting notes, like making flashcards, help students study and focus on key elements professors teach during lectures.
Biology major, Anthony Arteaga stated “Taking really good notes is something very helpful because it allows for helpful reviews on things we might overlook during lecture sometimes.” So highlighting something that doesn’t make sense during lecture can come in handy.
Number 3 – Communication
Communication is a big reason why students fall behind in classes. Communication can pertain to many different situations in many different instances. For instance, communication with teachers, classmates, study groups and tutors can drastically help the student be successful in school.
Political Science major, Cynthia Chavez stated “Spending a lot of time in class communicating with your teachers and peers is one of the best thing you can do to maintain good study habits.” So as we all know by now a closed mouth won’t get fed and the same concept certainly applies here.
Number 2 – Dedication
Dedication is a big motivational factor for a lot of college students. Some students have hectic schedules that conflict with the students desire to attend college. Kenesiology major, Nina Santos stated “Dedication motivates a lot because I tend to get distracted easily.”
Dedication can be tested many times throughout the semester but being well grounded and well rounded certainly helps out. So dedication is a quality all students should have in common but not all do, those who do know how beneficiary it can be now and in the long run.
Number 1 – Study Groups
Study groups are the most popular, and most important method of ensuring student success in college. Study groups are good for those who have a hard time studying alone, have a hard time finding times to study and those who seem to be struggling on certain subjects.
Computer Science major, Jose Huerta stated “Study Groups are really helpful with things like homework and test reviews.” While Study Groups are only a walk to the library away from most students some need them because of there situations at home.
