On Jan. 31 at approximately 6:45 p.m, a four-car collision occurred along the northbound side of Studebaker Road that faces the Science Building.
Witnesses state that the accident was the result of a driver losing sight of the road while reaching for his cellphone and driving ten miles above the 40 miles per hour limit.
The cars of three different students were caught in the chain collision, receiving rear body damage.
Sabrina Prijad, biology major, was riding in the passenger seat with her father when their Lexus compact SUV was first struck by a BMW M class sedan.
The impact was so potent that it caused the SUV to forcefully propel forward, striking a Ford Explorer belonging to child development major Angelica Valencia.
Valencia’s SUV was then pushed into the vehicle of a student who decided to remain anonymous.
A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling the 605 freeway arrived on the scene and the drivers involved exchanged information.
According to Valencia, Studebaker Road is not the safest of streets to drive on and she would like to see the city formally intervene or enforce a greater police presence in the area.
“I have seen many accidents here on this street, there are always students using their phones while driving or dangerously forcing their way from the parking lot and into the street.
“It would be helpful if a road bump was installed or more patrols were present during high traffic hours,” she said.
