The second Cerritos College Military Ball will be held at the Student Center on Nov. 3 that will honor every branch member in the military.
Veterans Resource assistant Alfred Velapatino encourages veterans to attend the Military Ball.
“It’s important (for veteran students to come) because it’s a once a year event. This is a formal event that everybody comes in (and) there’s dancing and music,” Velapatino said.
Joining the event will be the singing group “Swing Dolls” that also performed at last year’s ball.
Veterans Affairs work study assistant Joshua Villalta said that last year’s ball was “a lot of fun.”
“We got to see a lot of veterans that I see here at the Veterans Resource Center.”
He mentioned that it’s very nice to see veterans dressed in a formal attire and in their uniforms.
Compared to last year’s ball with 200 attendees, Velapatino estimates that there will be 100 more attending this year. He said there are about 500 veteran students at Cerritos College.
According to Velapatino, the Veterans Club will award four individuals $250 scholarships at the ball.
Villalta talked about the reasons for having the ball.
“(It is) to show awareness to other people around the campus (and) to get to know (that) there are veterans here (at Cerritos College).
“Just like them (students), we (veterans) like to party.”
The Military Ball is free for all veterans plus one guest.
