Give an old rusted 1965 Chevrolette truck with as many holes as Swiss Cheese to the Auto Body Department at school for 18 months, students will take it and make it to look like it’s fresh out of the factory.
The Auto Body Club threw a celebration in the Auto Body Department for Cerritos College faculty, staff and students to see the brand new looking Chevy.
Students from different auto body classes in the department got together to work on the Chevy.
Truck owner Gilbert Lara said that his truck needed “some tender, loving care.”
The truck was not only restored to it’s former glory, but it was customized from top to bottom.
“I never imagined this quality. This exceeded my expectations,” Lara commented on the work that was done on the truck by students.
The students were sponsored by different auto companies which helped restore the truck. Materials that were not used for the truck will benefit future projects that students will use.
Students took the truck to the Specialty Equipment Market Association convention in Las Vegas in order to showcase what the Cerritos College auto body students are capable of doing.
The truck was not ready to be showcased and the time to transport the vehicle to the convention was only a few days away, so students are taking initiative by meeting late nights in order to finish their work and make deadline.
The truck is estimated to be done in late January.
Auto body collision major and President of the Auto Body Club Jason Meyers said, “Students from Cerritos College can obtain something from nothing to make it into a good product.”
