Raneisha DuBose, the secretary of the Black Student Union, continuously works to create and maintain a club for students at Cerritos College that are looking for “A place to fit in and have fun.”
The Black Student Union is a club with a purpose, working to create a fun environment for everyone to enjoy. According to DuBose, the BSU, “Strives to bring everyone together to show that we can all get along.
“I believe that team work makes the dream work, and if we all work as a team we can accomplish a lot.”
Recently, the union participated in the Martin Luther King Parade to promote both the club and the school’s diversity.
Curisha Moore, a second semester member of the BSU, added, “Our purpose is to promote activities of common interest, as well as cultural and educational benefits for the African American student body.
“In addition, the BSU is the umbrella organization of many of the African American student organizations, providing a forum for them to voice their differences, goals and ideas.”
Do not allow the name to throw you off, however, as the Black Student Union is very open to all ethnic groups.
“Our club is very diverse, and we have Hispanics and Asians that have also joined our club”, Moore continued.
“The purpose is to be open to diversity, so we have open arms to everyone.”
Dubose is excited about all of the upcoming events the union has to offer, including picnics, a gospel fest and an Easter celebration which will include a scavenger hunt and many other fun activities.
“We do all kinds of activities, especially game shows.
“We went to ‘Let’s Make A Deal’ last semester, and myself and another club member won about $6000 worth of prizes.”
DuBose continued, “We do a lot of fundraisers, we have a step team… but we’re down to do anything that will bring more joy to the club and make memories.
“We meet every week to make sure we can come up with different ideas and fundraisers to get more people to join the club”, Moore added.
The BSU club meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. in Room LRC 213.
