On the fourth day of the Spring Festival, clubs competed in a video game tournament.
A trailer from Extreme Game Truck was parked outside the Fine Arts Building with screens outside and inside the trailer.
Students were also offered free popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy and the chance to have their photos taken wearing costumes in a photo booth.
Thirteen clubs participated as teams, with hopes of winning the first place prize of $200 for their club. Second prize was $100 and third was $50.
Each club elected one member to play a random station between one through six.
Club members did not know what game they were going to play until they were assigned a station at random.
The games ranged from Madden NFL 13, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports and Just Dance.
Head Chair of the Falcon Games Committee, Abner “Ace” Caguioa said this was done to add some variety to the games and challenge the clubs.
“We wanted (a) variety of games. We didn’t want to focus on one particular game because we wanted to avoid domination.
“We wanted to avoid that and incorporate more diverse games so we can accommodate…all kinds of gamers, because there are hardcore gamers (and) there are casual gamers. The randomness is to avoid domination in one area and really explore everything.”
Games were played in five minute rounds with the winner being rewarded with points for their team.
Tim Yuen who represented the K-Pop Club waited outside the truck before hearing which games he would be playing. He said he would play any game but Just Dance.
“I wanted to play PC games, but they don’t have those. I like first person shooter games.”
Aldo Lopez, the president of the iFalcon Club was confident that his team was going to perform well.
“They played as much as they can (and) learned to cooperate as a team. They got competitive with each other so they know what’s it like to be in a competition.”
A number of clubs were surprised at how they did after the rounds were over. Daniel Quintero who is a member of S.P.I.C.E Club was chosen to play the round of Just Dance. He said it was his first time ever playing.
“I think I did pretty awesome for my first time….. yeah it feels good to win.”
Steven Broom who is a member of the Triathlon Club randomly got chosen for the Wii Sports category which included bowling. At the end of the round his team was second. But he was sure that they are not out of the game yet.
“I had fun and we got second, but I’m not worried. What comes next? First place, we’ll be on top.
The winners were Karbakada Club in 1st place and the International Student Association was tied with iFalcon for 2nd place.
