Dr. Kimberely Duff will step into the role of Vice president of the Western Regional Psi Beta Psychology Honors Society. Dr. Duff will begin her term starting January 2014 all the way through December 15.
Founded in 1929, Psi Chi (International Honor Society in Psychology) is an organization for students who are majoring in psychology. Psi Chi encourages growth and excellence for undergraduates and grad students that are members of it.
Dr. Duff has been teaching psychology courses for 15 years at Cerritos College and is the advisor for the Cerritos College Psi Beta Club.
One of Dr. Duff’s many roles are organizing Psi Beta events at both the national level and regional level.
Even though Dr. Duff will be taking on this role, she still wants the Psi Beta program here at Cerritos College to prosper.
“Since I’m going to be more active in the national level, I definetly want to make sure that the Cerritos College chapter continues to shine.”
We created this model on how to run a successful chapter, and I want to make sure that we sustain that.”
Dr. Duff talked about the expectations she has in her new role as Western Regional Vice President of the Psi Beta Psychology Honors Society.
“Hopefully to make a difference at the national level and show other instructors and students that if your motivated enough and you put in the hard work, you could accomplish all these things, like being able to conduct your own research, being able to present at a conference, networking with world renown psychologist, and also network with other people and see how they did it.”
Yesenia Osuna, Duff’s teacher’s aide and alumni of Cerritos College, talked about Duff reinforcing her determination in the field of psychology.
“Because of her teaching, the way she was teaching (and) the way she communicated, she was the one that emphasized that I want to do psychology,” Osuna said.
Students who are interested in psychology or want to further their skills in it, you can attend the Psi Beta club meetings on Tuesdays from 11-12pm in the Social Science Building, Room 215.
