The Inter-Club Council (ICC) meeting was held on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m., and Abner “Ace” Caguioa, Commissioner of Public Relations for ICC, reported on ways clubs can advertise or publicize to help make each individual club known.
The resources include flyers, posters, the student newspaper (Talon Marks), electronic media, such as the like page for Cerritos College on Facebook and the marquees on campus, such as the one in front of the campus by Alondra Blvd.
Other ways to advertise include the ICC, or via e-mail.
Austin Garrido, child development major and president for the Queer Straight Alliance (QSA) said, “I think it is important for every club to be informed about ways to publicize their club. I know I like to spread the word for my club (QSA) so that people know about events we will be having.”
During the meeting, the ICC Commissioner, Charles Caguioa, informed the club representatives that he wants all the clubs to collaborate more and help each other with their clubs on campus. He asked the representatives to interact with one another for a few minutes during the meeting and be more aware about what each club has planned for upcoming events.
Rob Torrez, Field Manager for the American Red Cross, announced the upcoming Blood Drive at Cerritos College, the third blood drive this school year, on Feb. 10 to Feb. 13.
Torrez informed the representatives that The American Red Cross will award the club on campus with a pizza party and a crystal award made out of real crystals that has helped donate the most in blood drives.
So far, the Kinesiology Club holds third place, the Veterans club holds second place and the Pre-Med clubs stands in first place.
Cerritos College stands in second place, after Cal Poly Pomona, for the most helpful and donating college in Southern California.
They mentioned a march called “March on March” on Feb. 22. The trip will be in Sacramento and the purpose of the trip or march is to inform students of the importance of education and how to be able to talk to legislatures.
This is only for community colleges.
Two clubs want to become official clubs on campus; The Catholic Human Club, which involves bible studies and the other club that wants to start is The Gay Pride Committee.
Someone that participated in the meeting were Windy Bay Herman, Computer Art Graphics Design major, said, “ I like every ICC meeting, they are always informative and helpful on every club on campus. It is good to know about upcoming fundraisers, trips, or conferences.”
Zombie Fest winners for Halloween were the iFalcon Club, who was awarded first place with “The Walking Dead” title, for the most zombie participation.
The Anime club won the “I Am Legend”, which was for the most survivors, the Medical Assistant Club won the “Zombieland” award for donating most cans and the Kabarkada club won the “World War Z” award for most volunteering.
The ICC meeting also announced events that will be happening this semester, such as the Black History Celebration on Feb. 28 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Student Center and the spring festival applications that will be available on Feb. 24 at 9 a.m.
The ICC was going to award scholarships to winners that applied for the scholarship, but was postponed for the next ICC meeting.
The next ICC meeting will take place Feb. 27 in the BK 112 room at 11 a.m.
